John Serves as Catholic Religious Consultant for Hyundai Commercial
John worked as a Catholic religious consultant on this Hyundai ad.
Although he was asked some questions about the script itself, he had no control over it. Most of his responsibilities revolved around helping the art director recreate an accurate reproduction of the interior of a Catholic Church. Some of what he is most proud of did not make it into the final cut (they perfectly created the sanctuary of a Catholic Church with all of the details, including an altar and a tabernacle, where previously none existed). He also consulted on costuming and was available on the day of the shoot to answer questions for the director. The confessional was also brought in and assembled.
The crew was by no means required to do everything he asked, but they did most of it, which was surprising, even if a lot of it didn't make the final cut.
The building they filmed in essentially isn't really a church by any Catholic definition of the word, so he is quite proud of how it all turned out.
A Catholic Filmmaker Reacts to CONSTANTINE
John Allen Soares is a filmmaker and Emmy-nominated motion picture editor. He has also studied the Catholic Church and its history for 25 years and has served as a Catholic catechist and apologist for at least half that time. He also has had personal experiences with Catholic deliverance and exorcism ministries. All of this makes him an apt candidate to comment on the film CONSTANTINE, starring Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz, a highly stylized Hollywood take on spiritual warfare that is loaded with pseudo-Catholic imagery and ideas.

BOOK OF LIES - Second week of filming
Writer and director John Soares, line producer Sonia Swanson, Cinematographer Justin Spurlock, Art Director Cassie Meder, Prop builder Evil Ted Smith as well as our stunt team, Fernando Jay Huerto, Rodney Pablo, Justice Vancho and Joshua Benton convened in South Central Los Angeles last month to shoot an action sequence for the Book of Lies project. Ted and Sonia even doubled as fighters.

We finished our first week of filming the short!
It was a challenging, tightly scheduled week that took us all over California. I am proud to say that it was a complete success!
